This is one of the recipes where you don't have the time to plan to prepare kuzhi paniyaram batter and want to relish something on a sunday evening after a heavy sumptuous lunch. This is really quick as we are going to make this using the left over Idli batter. If you don't have gram flour, you can even add cooked moong dhal or masoor dhal(Gram flour abosbs the water content from the idli batter and also makes it crispier). There is another easy way to make kuzhi paniyaram with idli batter.Soak a tablespoon of tuar dhal(Thuvaram paruppu) and a tablespoon of channa dhal(Kadalai paruppu) for an hour. Make a coarse paste with a dry red chilly. Add this paste to idli batter and start making crispy paniyarams.
Ingredients
Idli batter - 1 bowl
Gram flour(Kadalai mavu) - 3/4 tablespoons
Onion - 1 - finely chopped
Ginger - grated - 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves - a bunch- finely chopped
Green chillies - 1 - finely chopped
(If you don't want onion, add finely chopped coconut which gives a crunch while eating. For kids you can add grated carrot along with coriander.)
Procedure
Mix all the above ingredients.
Heat oil in the kuzhi paniyaram pan.
Pour the batter till 3/4 of the hole.Leave some space for the batter to rise.Cook the paniyarams in medium low flame.

In the absence of the kuzi paniyara thattu, can this be fried like bonda?
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried like bonda..Only issue will be you would have to fry one at a time, which is time consuming...What you can do is add a little bit more of kadalai mavu and also add aval(poha) powder which will will absorb more water content.
ReplyDeleteBest option will be Iluppai karandi..I am sure you would have one.
Ah, iluppa karandi is a great idea..but that would be one by one too....
